This article provides guidance on industries and merchant types that are prohibited from using Payyit’s services. Businesses involved in the following categories are ineligible due to compliance with legal, regulatory, and payment network rules.
Prohibited Industries and Merchant Types
Advanced Payments >1 Year
Businesses accepting upfront payments for services or products delivered beyond one year from the purchase date.
Age-Restricted Products
Merchants selling products that require age verification, such as alcohol, unless compliant with strict legal requirements regarding age verification at both sale and delivery points.
Adult Content & Services
Includes but is not limited to:
• Adult bookstores or video stores
• Adult websites and content
• Escort services
• Sexually explicit entertainment (e.g., strip clubs)
Airlines
Merchants offering scheduled passenger air service, which generally involves long prepayment periods.
Illegal Gambling
Any business involved in gambling activities prohibited by state or federal law.
Illegal Products/Services
Any product or service deemed illegal or that facilitates illegal activities, including supporting websites offering online gambling or illegal drug distribution guides.
Non-Compliant CBD Products
CBD products that do not comply with the Farm Act and other legal regulations, including ingestible CBD products and businesses selling non-compliant CBD-related services.
Bidding Fee Auctions
Auctions where customers are charged fees to place bids, regardless of whether they win the item.
Get Rich Quick Schemes
Businesses promising unrealistic profits, quick wealth, or requiring minimal effort and skill, including pyramid schemes focused on recruiting more participants.
Charities Without 501(c)(3) Status
Charities that fail to provide valid tax-exempt status documentation.
Collection Agencies
Agencies or firms engaged in recovering past due debts on behalf of other businesses.
Counterfeit Goods
Merchants selling replica or fake products designed to mimic designer or branded goods, including those labeled as replicas.
Credit Repair/Protection Services
Businesses offering services to repair credit scores, provide identity theft protection, or monitor credit reports.
Cryptocurrency
Merchants dealing in cryptocurrency exchanges, sales, or services related to virtual currency.
Debt Consolidation Services
Businesses that offer services to consolidate or reduce consumer debt, often for a fee.
Firearms (Non Face-to-Face Sales)
Sales of firearms or related products in non-face-to-face environments.
Fortune Telling/Psychic Services
Businesses providing services such as psychic readings, tarot card readings, or horoscopes.
Illegal Substances & Related Products
Businesses selling or facilitating the distribution of substances designed to mimic illegal drugs, including synthetic marijuana and other psychoactive substances.
Telemarketing Operations
Telemarketing companies primarily soliciting via outbound calls, facsimile, or inbound calls resulting from direct mail (excluding catalog or media ads).
Unlicensed Massage Parlors
Massage parlors operating without a valid license, often involved in illicit activities.
Unregulated Financial Services
Entities offering payday loans, unsecured loans, or stored value exceeding $2,000 in a day, including money transmitters, wire transfer services, and check cashing services.
Negative Renewal Option Practices
Businesses using negative billing options where terms are unclear, or where cancellation is difficult, such as free trials with automatic subscription renewals.
